Harar Millennium

Personal experience: Visiting Harar this past July was life altering experience. I have observed how much the city and the people have changed. Although I will leave the detail analysis report for another day, I will say this. I lost nothing by visiting my beloved city of harar.

Why the need for a community?

Throughout history, progress and even survival, have at times depended on collaboration. Great civilizations and movements have been developed by people uniting together for a common purpose.  Greatness and progress have often accompanied a unified effort through adversity.  When Creativity, Skills, and Motivation, accompany Collaboration, possibilities are extended, doors are opened, capacity expanded, and success realized. For the individual, the group or collaboration can often offer greater access and a more powerful vehicle for change.  For the community, individual participation often results in better decisions and a better decision making process.

Second, strong social networks and high levels of active relationships between individuals from different roles in the community tend to encourage social trust. Community members expect and understand that important community issues are going to be dealt with by all members of the community and that multiple viewpoints will be expressed and valued. It becomes normal for community members to engage in dialogue and debate about issues that affect the entire community. Community members also trust community leaders and peers to include individual members and views when decisions affecting the entire community are being made.

themes such as trust, acceptance of diverse views, and a push toward the community as an inclusive "we" as opposed to a collection of "Is" will born. Community members trust each other so that debate about important issues can occur without individuals becoming disengaged from the group. Members will become "willing and eager" to work together. Individuals who have resources and motivation will believe, that their money and time will benefit both the community and themselves.
In summary, if we view controversy as a way for the community to talk about tough issues, that people are not "evil" or immoral if they propose a differing ideas, expanding on "we" with fewer and fewer "theys".  all of these ingredients will increase stock of social capital and believes that each individual's contribution is vital to making a difference will glue the future.
